Third Nationwide Test of The Wireless Emergency Alerts

This test is conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in coordination with the Federal Communication Commission.

This test will be broadcast by cell power for 30 minutes, and all wireless phones in the network of cell towers will receive the message. Meanwhile, radio and television will also broadcast test emergencies.

The purpose of the Nationwide Wireless test is to ensure that the system is effective or not for means of warning the public about emergencies at the national level.

This is the third nationwide test of wireless emergency alerts and the most recent took place in the year 2021.

Also, FEMA officials told CNN that vulnerabilities in software and TV could lead to hackers broadcasting fake messages over the alert system.

The foray emergency alert system testing occurred in 2011 and it was more than a decade ago.

Before this emergency alert system, the state government of Florida had issued an apology after being awoken at 4:45 AM by a test emergency sent to their phones.
